Up-lighting is a great and relatively inexpensively way to enhance the ambiance of the room in an elegant way. Up-lighting can be placed on a floor to shine up columns or walls, or behind plants, and can even be used to give the illusion that a room is taller than it actually is.  The Mister and I plan to use up-lighting throughout the rooms of our reception to set the scene lounge-vibe for our wedding!  Here are a few of our favorite looks!

The Tea Party was a success! 

I was so happy that after all of my planning, everyone enjoyed had a lovely Mothers' Day with their moms (and daughters)!  Getting together over tea was a great way to catch up with everyone, laugh, and enjoy delicious spread! I am very hopeful that Mothers' Day Tea will become a tradition and that even more people will be be able to attend next year!

On fine, Bernardaud china we enjoyed freshly baked scones, clotted cream, pineapple and coconut preserves, savory tea sandwiches, pastries, confections and cookies.

The savory items included a California Club, Curry and Radish Cupcake, Salmon Open Face Sandwich, and a Cauliflower and Truffle Quiche.

Not only was tea a beautiful way to spend Mothers' Day it also crossed another item off of my Thirty Before 30!!!

Lorelai and her daughter, Lorelai.  Stars Hollow.  Emily, Richard, and Trix.  Luke and his diner.  Suki and Michel at the Dragonfly Inn. Dean, Jess, and Logan. Chilton and Yale. Lane and Paris.  And of course... the theme song, "Where you Lead." - Good times!

The Gilmore Girls has got to be one of my all time favorite TV shows ever!!! The quick wit and banter of the dynamic mother daughter duo always kept me laughing and thoroughly entertained, and the special bond that Lorelai and Rori shared reminded me a lot of my mom and me.  For one hour a week, the show gave me enough mother daughter moments and sass to keep me from falling prey to homesickness in college.  Oh, how I wish they had come out with a Gilmore movie... but I guess DVD reruns will do.

Today was Mothers' Day, a day that is very special for me!  I love that there is a day that my mom and I can celebrate each other and the bond that we share every day of the year!

I also want to wish Sister a Happy Mothers' Day!

Wedding Wednesday - Invitation Month Begins!

Yippee!  

 Our personalized etsy listing was posted today!  

After all of the invite drama of last week, I am ecstatic (yep, I even did the happy dance) that in a week's time we found a new invite vendor who has great designs and is very responsive!  

Time for a huge whoo hoo: 

Our invitation (and stationary) deposit has been paid!  

We will begin customizing our invitations in the next few days! 

RSVP frustration

RSVP is an abbreviation for the French phrase,

 Répondez s’il vous plaît 

Translation: “Please respond.”

Etiquette Note: When a host sends an invitation and asks you to respond, yes or no, it is expected that you respond (before the date indicated).  

The concept of an RSVP seems simple, right? I thought so.  Apparently I was wrong. 

When I sent out the invitations for my Tea Party I thought it was more than reasonable that I allowed for more than two weeks for guests to RSVP.  So can you imagine my shock (and frustration) when almost a third of the guests did not respond!  

As a host, I needed to know how many guests to expect.  When I made the original reservation I had agreed to pay for the number of guests expected, even if the actual number of guests as less than expected.  More than anything anything else, I am peeved because quite simply, it was rude for my guests not to respond.  

Moral of the story: If someone is kind enough to invite you to an event and asks that you reply whether or not you plan to attend, please, kindly respond.
